It’s not about the money
The end of financial year has
come and gone, leaving many of
us thinking about money; where
it’s coming from and where it’s
going. The interesting thing is
that when you speak to most
people in the industry, they say
they do it for love, not money.
This is a key thing to
remember when employing
new staff or looking for a new
gig. It’s easy to get caught up
in the trap of thinking you’re
worth a number or seeking staff based on
the salary available.
Our lives are ruled by numbers; our
weight, age, height, the time and day of
The number you shouldn’t define your
life – or worth – by is salary.
The events industry offers plenty of
opportunities to make the big bucks,
but beyond that, it offers exceptional
development opportunities and
experiences. How much would a regular
punter pay to go behind the scenes at the
biggest, or alternatively, most exclusive
events in the world?
This is what we do every day. We have
the privilege to produce events for things
like the upcoming Commonwealth
Games on the Gold Coast, gala dinners
that raise much-needed funds for
charities, conferences that spark world-
leading innovation, and incentives that
thank people who keep businesses afloat
with their skill and passion.
People talk about ‘money can’t buy’ as the
pinnacle of luxury. This is everyday life in
the Australian events industry. The access
we have to the world’s leading lights is hard
to put a number on so maybe it's better to
focus on memories instead of dollar signs.
